While the Eldad and Medad Project may begin as a small group of committed lay folk doing good works through our local church, a further part of the founder's vision is the establishment of a quasi-monastic community for folks attracted to a deeper commitment to this life of prayer and service.
If God wills, the Companions of Eldad and Medad will form a dispersed community of hermit-monks and nuns—“in the trenches” of the modern world—living a life of service to others through apostolic works and personal prayer.
Responding to the vison of Bishop David Dismas [current bishop of the Mission Diocese of Saint Nicholas], and inspired by the story of Eldad and Medad as recorded in the Book of Numbers, the Companions will strive to serve the “unchurched” and “underchurched.” Companions are especially called to care for souls who feel abandoned, forgotten, or even cast aside by the larger Church.
The companions will be drawn by the spirit of the 19th century Roman Catholic worker-priests from southern France. Their common life will be manifest in monthly ZOOM chapter meetings and an annual in person chapter/retreat. Companions will covenant to celebrate the Divine Office—AKA Liturgy of the Hours—throughout the day as their schedules and/or professional responsibilities allow.

Most companions will probably live alone in small apartments set aside by the bishop as a "hermitage."
Companions will be expected to have a job and/or personal income as the Companions of Eldad and Medad will neither request nor accept offerings from the people they serve.
